Wineries near Algaida: Mallorca Wine Country

When the summer sun shimmers over the gentle hills of the island’s interior, the grapes ripening around Algaida hold one of Mallorca’s best-kept pleasures: its wine. The island is famous for its beaches and sea – yet just a few minutes’ drive from Finca Mia Limon, real wine country begins. Welcome to the heart of the Pla i Llevant wine region.
Wineries around Algaida: the Pla i Llevant wine country
Mallorca has two protected wine-growing appellations: Binissalem in the north, and Pla i Llevant across the central plain and east of the island – exactly where Algaida sits. Pla i Llevant has held Denominación de Origen (DO) status since 1999 and today brings together around a dozen bodegas spread across villages such as Algaida, Porreres, Petra, Felanitx and Manacor.
What makes it special: many of these estates work with native grape varieties found only on Mallorca. The red Callet produces medium-bodied, soft wines with an earthy Mediterranean character, alongside varieties like Manto Negro and Fogoneu. Among the whites, the Prensal Blanc (also called Moll) shapes fresh, sun-ripened wines. With one of these in your glass, you quite literally taste the landscape you’ve travelled through.
Can Majoral – organic wine right in Algaida
The closest winery is practically on your doorstep: Can Majoral in Algaida. This small family estate was founded in 1979 and ranks among the island’s organic pioneers, farming ecologically and partly along biodynamic principles. Its wines – above all a single-varietal Callet – have earned international recognition.
Visitors can join guided tastings that typically pair several wines with a hearty picada: pa amb oli, cheese, sobrassada, homemade pâtés and roasted almonds. It’s a relaxed, honest window into Mallorcan wine culture, just minutes from the finca. It’s best to confirm dates and exact prices with the winery in advance.

Porreres: bodegas among rolling hills
About a 20-minute drive southeast of Algaida lies Porreres, another hub of the Pla i Llevant. Family-run estates line up here among softly rolling hills. One well-known name is Mesquida Mora, a biodynamic project that cultivates Callet with real devotion and offers, beyond classic tastings, special experiences – from sunset sessions to yoga among the vines. The long-established Jaume Mesquida is at home here too.
Porreres is where you find the intimate, personal wine experience: often the family itself walks you through the vines and cellar, and you taste full-bodied reds and fresh whites right where they were made. Be sure to book ahead – these small producers take their time with guests but don’t cater to walk-ins.

Tips for your summer wine day
- Go early or late: In July and August the midday heat is intense. A tasting is far more pleasant in the morning or late afternoon – and the light over the vineyards is at its most beautiful then.
- Always reserve: Almost all Pla i Llevant bodegas open by appointment only. Check opening hours, dates and prices beforehand.
- Choose a driver: Whoever tastes shouldn’t drive. Take turns or use a taxi – distances are short.
- Take some home: Many wineries sell on site. A bottle or two as a souvenir tastes twice as good back on the finca terrace.
Finca Mia Limon as your ideal base
